The NY Times story claims that Ryan Adams sexted with a minor who claimed to be older. Basically, he was catfished. The girl said that she was 18 but purportedly was only 16. Ryan asked her to show him ID, but she never did. The thing that gets me is that the girl, according to the article, is now 20 years old. But the NY Times is hiding her identity, only referring to her as Ava because she was a minor when the sexting occurred.
In stark contrast, the same NY Times had no problem publicly naming Jimmy Bennett as Asia Argento's victim of statutory rape. "Ava" was a victim of cyber sex. Jimmy Bennett was a victim of actual statutory rape.
