The people who tell you it will get better, whilst well intentioned, have no idea what it’s like. I have long felt a lot of anger and frustration towards my ‘friends’ who adopted a similar method of placating me but I learnt after a while that they just lack the emotional intelligence to truly comprehend what it is like, and they like most people don’t actually have any idea how to support someone suffering. I just want to clarify and make sure you know I didn’t raise my circumstance as a “competition” or anything, I just shared it to indicate that my empathy isn’t just lip service.

Know that I, and many other fathers like you, share your pain, frustration, angst, loss... you are not alone. And though I do not know you, my love and thoughts are with you and your children.

They deserve their father and you deserve to be a father to your girls.
