And evidently girls can't get a man without buying multiple beauty products from Covergirl.

"I heard that girls couldn't rap. I rap," says a steely-eyed Queen Latifah in the spot, looking like the boss she is. "Girls couldn't own their own businesses? I own my own business." A nice touch is scene-stealer Sofia Vergara adding in Spanish that she was told, "Girls can't play the lead." Also featured are Janelle Monae, teen rapper Becky G, and an unidentified woman hockey player.

Where are these so-called evil men telling women they can't rap, own their own businesses, or play hockey? Am I missing something here? If you have the talent and work ethic, nothing is stopping you from trying to do the things listed (At least, nothing gender related). Unless we suddenly don't allow women to own businesses anymore and I just haven't noticed.

"'I like it when people say I can't…'" wrote one commenter, echoing singer Pink's declaration, "because it makes victory all the sweeter, and makes me laugh all the harder, when I prove them wrong. #girlscan #run the world."

It's like they have to invent their own stories where they're the hero or something. "Oh, the big bad man says I can't do something? I'll prove him wrong! Look at me, aren't I amazing?", when in reality, we're all thinking, "The fuck? No one cares, just do your job like everyone else and stop looking for attention".

I'm assuming that's what this whole campaign is really about anyway, just giving women an excuse to pat themselves on the back extra hard for their accomplishments (Which have nothing to do with gender anyway). Like having to deal with the horrible, horrible sexism of the independent business owner community, or the National Women's Hockey League. Must be awful.

Others, meanwhile, challenge the validity of leaving disempowered boys out of the discussion...Supporting all children is a valid issue, of course, but honoring the shared experience of females doesn't negate that. It's a different issue altogether."

If "supporting all children" was really a valid issue to these people, they wouldn't keep making these girl centric campaigns over and over. IMO, the most annoying part isn't that boys don't have the same campaigns, it's that these people say shit like "Oh, supporting all children is extremely important, and such a valid issue", but then turn around and do shit like this.

One thing they don't seem to realize: Going by their logic, if these campaigns are so extremely important for women and their self esteem, wouldn't it stand to reason that a guy centric campaign would help just as much for men? In that case, how can they justify leaving half of the population out? That's not even considering that there have been tons of "empowering ads" for women, but I rarely see them for men. I don't know how effective they actually are, but that's not the point. It's the blatant hypocrisy that gets old.
