I do not know how much of this is true, but there does seem to be a pervasive problem in terms of double standards regarding gender norms and what is expected from either side of the spectrum.
You could be minding your own business, not doing anything to harm anyone and suddenly get accused of harassment and inappropriate behavior simply cuz your mere presence makes people uncomfortable. This is inspite of not actually doing anything to purposely or intentionally cause discomfort.
And yet doing something as simple as saying hello or giving positive compliments to a friend, acquaintance or co worker is suddenly misconstrued as sexual harassment.
Women can complain a blue streak about how horrible men can be with their toxic masculinity, but men can never complain about awful examples of toxic femininity because women take immediate offense and misconstrue it as a condemnation of all women.
Or worse, women say they want men to be more sensitive and compassionate and understanding, only to turn around and chastise a man for being 'less than a man' cuz theyre not strong enough to defend them or to take charge of a situation or whatever.
Women are always encouraged to fight back against male attackers but a man is discouraged from hitting a woman, even while being attacked.
Regarding sexual assault, i find the whole concept abhorrent and disgusting and would never in a million years enact such cruelty onto anyone. I also find people that commit sexual assault on women, men, children and/or animals, to be the lowest form of scum next to lazy entitled Millennials, Donald Trump, White Supremacists and everyone that works for Fox News. And to be lumped into the same category as them is more than flesh and blood can stand.
People who survive sexual assault have my deepest sympathy and my respect for managing to break free from an abuser's control and domineering behavior. I have seen plenty of docu series about how difficult it can be for people to speak out, and how difficult it can be to break free, as well as how difficult it can be to move on afterwards.
However, i feel that in some very rare instances, that those that survive assault sometimes use the fact that they were once assaulted as an excuse to not trust anyone. In addition, these same people use their victimhood as an excuse to make baseless accusations and allegations against people that they know full well would never hurt anyone. I know that those who are assaulted find it very difficult to trust anyone, because those that commit assault often do so under the guise of kindness and compassion. It is disheartening because a natural instinct is to want to help someone, to comfort them, but you cant do anything because even you're desire to help and be supportive and comforting can be met with suspicion.
Its like we have to constantly walk on eggshells and walk around with that same paranoia, that we cant ever talk to anyone or even exude any sort of kindness and friendly behavior towards anyone because that person may have been a victim/survivor of assault.
And worst of all, nothing ever happens to the people that make the false allegations or accusations against innocent people. The innocent person has their lives completely ruined while the accusers get away scot free. Its lose lose any way you slice it.
