I'm talking about the kind of guy who never seems to show genuine interest in you, who never asks questions, doesn't really seem to bother about your opinions, who only talks about himself, and in some cases bluntly stops the conversation with you if a better conversation partner comes along.

First choice would be avoiding these types altogether. Sometimes this is not possible because a) it's the first time you talk to them. b) social stat credits: some people actually like these people. Ignoring them could damage your social status.

In my experience, being a good listener doesn't really work here. Usually this ends up as them talking non-stop, using you as their conversational cumrag, then showing no respect or interest when you see them the next time.

Besides trying to increase your own social status by lifting, accomplishing stuff etc, how do you deal with this?
