From the article:

People love it, but I don’t understand, especially in the climate we live in, how the macho-man thing just keeps being interesting to anybody.

Yes, at least you are willing to admit that you don't understand the preferences of movie audiences. That is why you are not as successful of a director.

Oooooohhhh that's so brutally skaving you could serve it gravy and call it a roast!

Dude, you just accused the director of Kill Bill for being too Macho.

Well, let's see. You can have the "hero" go apeshit and rip out the throats of his enemies with some crazy martial arts, some gunplay, throw in a couple of knives, scissors, maybe a pair of pliers or something for variety. Or you can have the "hero" cower under the bed like a bitch whispering to a 911 dispatch to send some real men to save his ass. Which movie is going to be more entertaining and interesting to watch? Decisions decisions.

I just googled her and she looks exactly how she sounds.

There are alot of movies with beta males too.

Clearly, 'strong' men are the weakest people. Clearly. What manly virtue could withstand your putting it in quote-unquote? Your punctuation is like kryptonite.

Set in the 1820s American Northwest, “First Cow” does, like “Once Upon a Time,” feature two male leads. But the gentle dynamic between a taciturn fur trapper and a Chinese immigrant doesn’t feel particularly macho when compared to Tarantino’s bromance between Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Reichardt continued, “The idea of white man as savior? Please — as if that has any relevance anywhere on the planet. Give me a break. How the semiotics of that — and the mythology of that in the world as we know it — can still exist is quite fascinating… It’s just not my world… It’s just not who’s there [in my movies]. I mean, clearly ‘strong’ men are the weakest people — isn’t the curtain been pulled back [on that]? If I should happen to come upon [that macho mindset], I’m more taken aback that it can still have any validity.”

"John Wayne died in 1979, and two of the iconic Marlboro men died of cancer in the early 1990s, but these cliché feminist bêtes noires are still burned in effigy in virtually every mainstream anti-masculinity op-ed"

Is it better for a man to be “open” or circumspect? ... “vulnerable” or invulnerable? ... to have high group status or low group status? ... to be successful or unsuccessful? ... to be tough or delicate? ... to be confident or apprehensive? ...to be self-reliant or dependent? ... to be aggressive or passive? ... to be violent or non-violent? ... to be daring or fearful?

Each of these questions can be asked independently, and the “best” answers will vary according to one’s philosophical disposition and the situation at hand. We could speak in Yoda sensei-voices and come up with unexpected, ponderous answers. We could cite exceptions to general rules and instances of “too much of a good thing.” But if we refer back to the list of predictions for male mammals in which selection is greater on males, we will see that many of these manly virtues are associated with biological differences between the sexes, and “our culture’s positive prescription for masculinity” encourages behaviors that have helped men compete successfully against other men. Our inherited masculine ideal is the stern but sound advice of our forefathers. It is “nurture” working in harmony with “nature.”
