As with many domestic violence cases, it’s not only the judge whose in denial about the danger the perpetrator presents to society, the victim in denial too: “ Her husband, who spent three days in hospital after the attack, had immediately told officers that he "didn’t want anything to happen to his wife".

"didn't want anything to happen to his wife" could be strongley indicative of a physically abusive relationship i.e. he was too afraid to speak up.

the victim in denial too

I doubt you would be singing this tune if the victim was a woman.

I bet you would be saying that the victim was to afraid to leave.

Not really. There's plenty of female abuse victims who have every opportunity to leave safely but insist on staying with their abuser, thinking they'll somehow change and that this latest incident will somehow be the last one.

Well there’s a difference between “throw her in prison” and “give her mental help” crimes of passion aren’t always committed by terrible people who deserve to go to jail, but they almost all need help.

Why do I feel like this fucking retard wouldn't be saying the same shit if the roles were reversed.

Because your right. Thats why.

Ehh feel like my comment was taken too literally. Obviously she should go to jail, I’m saying the HUSBANDS reasoning is that if his wife committed a crime of passion and in general isn’t violent, I could see why he would want nothing to happen to her. Not everyone who’s committed murder is a terrible person. This person might be, I’m not gunna take a leap and guess either way, but if you’re gunna act like every person who has committed murder should get immediate jail, death penalty whatever then you’re retarded. This is how you develop lifelong criminals.

This is also reminiscent of a domestic abuse situations, pretty possible the husbands “I don’t want anything to happen to her” wasn’t exactly from the heart, it’s almost like we weren’t there and don’t know much about the situation so the only thing we can do is speculate.

So if a man did that to his wife you’d be all over advocating h get mental help rather than prison right? Right?

[–]JakeDC 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, he would not.

This pisses me off

Quote from the Judge:

"There has been domestic violence, or of that nature over the years - going both ways may I add"

In the closing statement in the article, the Judge also states that the pleas from the husband can be credited in large part to sparing jail for the wife. The husband also refused to write a victim impact statement.

If there's a pass here, it was given by the husband IMO.

One hopes that some sort of help was given to the couple afterwards - it sounds like both spouses need it.

While what you say makes sense, i doubt the outcome would be the same if the sexes were reversed.

[–]bennnnnnni1 points 6 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

No shortage of women who will also defend their husband/boyfriend when they are abusive.

From the judges side it's difficult to tell. When the plaintiff refuses to write a victim impact statement and pleas for clemency I reckon it could easily go either way.

The courts usually give women lighter penalties. Plain and simple.
