This happened to me. Both ex and I agreed relationship was over, both wanted to stay in the family home with our kids while the other to moved out.

A fight happens, we shout at each other. There was no violence, and never has been. Ex requests occupation order (excluding me from the house) on the basis that she fears for her safety because of the shouting (even though I haven't actually done anything). Judge grants the order "just in case".

18 months later when we are in court to determine finances, ex tells the judge that it would now be too disruptive for the kids to sell the home and split the equity - she wants to keep living there with them until they grow up. Kids are 4 years old so this is a very long time.

Of course she wins, keeps the house. I am renting, still on the mortgage for a family home I am not allowed to live in, with no idea how I'll ever get a loan to buy my own place due to this other mortgage.

Clearly in this instance it is in the woman's interest to abuse these violence orders. She got to keep a nice house she would otherwise have had to sell. It should not surprise anyone that unscrupulous women do this stuff all the time.
