Im over the "anger phase" with women however something I rarely see ever talked about is being angry with their parents. I dont fully blame my parents for my problems (social, lack of discipline, and girl problems) but they did play a big part in it. My parents only support me financially however they RARELY gave any life advice and if they did it was usually horrible advice.
Heres some background info about me, I am an only child with very little family in my area. The few family that I had (cousins) my parents would cause drama with theirs and I would no longer see them for years. My dads schedule was work, then kick back with a beer in one hand and watch TV, rinse and repeat. Hardly a father figure. He is also a "nice guy" who laughs easily and gets taken advantage by his siblings. My mom was over protective and I had to get into heated arguments just so I could go to the movies or the mall with friends. Those arguments contributed to my first panic attacks which led me to the hospital thinking I was going to die of a heart attack. She would even stalk me sometimes when I went to the mall with friends and even drive up to us, it was embarrassing but I owned up to it. And btw I never gave her a reason to be overprotective, I was never a trouble maker. My routine would mostly consist of school, video games, sleep and repeat.
Anyway now at 21 years old I talk to them about how they raised me and the wrongs and rights that they did. My dads response is: "Well you should have learned how to talk to girls on your own or with your friends". Thats basically saying "well you should have learned to ride a bike on your own", although both can be learned on your own the point is it would have made it easier and less of a struggle had he been a father figure. I cant recall one time we ever talked about puberty, sex, girls, etc. My mom is worse, she never takes responsibility for her actions and blames other (especially me), always stressed, very controlling, teaches me horrible life advice like "The reason why you dont have a gf is because your not buying stuff for the girls you know, etc" basically teaching me to be a beta/provider/oribiter for most of my life. My mom is not a pleasant person to be around and is very controlling. When I visit for example she still picks what i am going to wear for the day even though I constantly tell her to STOP as that is my decision. She still does not listen. She continues to baby me even though I am a grown man and so many people have told her that but she is in denial and continues to baby me. My parents also dont love each other, they were basically room mates since I was in 7th grade. They claim to be together because of me but it would have been better if they divorced. My mom still lives with my dad only because he owns a small successful business which allows her to work very little if any. Clearly my dad is a huge beta. This is what ive been dealing with my whole life.
Although they love me, they werent good parents, I see them as providers and thats it. Ive even told them that being around them is cancerous to my personal development and thats why I avoid visiting them as much as possible while in college. But they think my anger and frustration can be solved by going to a therapist. How can I forgive them for being mediocre parents? Is this also just a phase? Anyone else had similar parents and if so how did you end up forgiving them and getting past the anger phase with them?
