I want to be popular, and have high SMV in high school, do I need to be friends with the popular kids to do that?

First go lift. Second be popular with all the unpopular kids because there are way more of them than there are popular kids. Third, get a good job, or start a small business either in the summer or during school, having money in your pocket is huge. Fourth spend a few extra bucks to get your motorcycle license, The amount of money you'd spend on a shitty car would buy a pretty decent bike.

Be friends with everyone but best friends with no one. You are above cliques, and social circle drama. It requires a high level of social awareness and confidence to pull off though.
