Until they get to that bit (‘women invented agriculture’ - that was definitely very much a cooperative effort) there’s at least some truth in there.

They’re way too over-confident about pop history, and the alewife origin for the witch archetype is simplistic BE - they didn’t wear special alewife hats - that’s been debunked but was propagated on the History Channel.

It’s also nonsense to imply that beer/ale was seen as a ‘woman’s drink’. It was consumed by men from Egyptian labourers to medieval European men, as any number of accounts and paintings from the Middle Ages onward will make clear.

But what IS true is that for much of history, from Sumer to mediaeval and early modern Europe, beer was largely brewed by women. ‘Alewife’ is a word for a reason.

And yes, the original meme about girly drinks vs. beer is funny and makes a good point.

Largescale agriculture was likely something of a team effort, but I know who supplied the Muscle to get it done. Women would have been able to plant seeds and saplings, but Men would have been doing all the heavy lifting and hard labor. Agriculture can be seen as the origin of civilization, so claiming to have invented it, despite no proof that anyone in particular did so, is a way of trying to take credit for the creation of all civilization. As for beer, the origins of beer are well known, and these people are either willfully ignorant, or just plain stupid.

They likely grabbed on the fact that there were ancient Goddesses, and Priestesses for them that were associated with Beer, and jumped over the fact that these women were in fact the equivalent of slaves to the people who wanted the Beer. Moreover, Modern Beer contains Hops, and they were added by monks who created the first Beer that had carbonation, around the same time they created Champaign. Everything up until those Monks was flat beer, with flavors they tried to enhance in many different ways. Hops also have an effect on the female reproductive system, and drinking Beer while pregnant is particularly Bad. You not only have the effects of alcohol to consider, but the hormonal changes from the consumption of Hops.
