Last weekend, at a wedding, I saw my ex, who I hadn't seen in four years. She was with the dude who was then a good friend of mine, whom she cheated on me with. You can only imagine the trauma and pain of that double betrayal, and the transformations they caused in me.
I suspected they were going to be there because we have friends in common, so I prepared myself mentally to decide what kind of attitude I would have. It was a basic choice for me: resentful and shy because of the pressure of their presence, or mature and kind to honor all the work I have been doing the past 4 years.
When we got there our friends were split into two groups and there was tension. I understood then that it was my responsibility to break that ice and I approached them both and saluted with a smile, I even told her she looked beautiful. The whole group started talking then and she escaped. I ran into her later and asked her who she was. She was so nervous she almost fell but I grabbed her by the arm (I am strong as a bull now). We talked for 20 minutes and I didn't mention anything about the past, I just asked her how she was and told her I wish her the best. She apologized for how things went, to which I responded there is nothing she needs to apologize for, that it was nice talking to her and I am glad she is ok.
The rest of the night I partied with my cock out, didn't lose total control of my alcohol and had a great time with my friends. When I was leaving, I ran into them again and I saluted them both politely.
When I got home, I went to bed to cry. It was so much psychic effort to do all that, and I was constantly ignoring my inner resentful self who wanted to do something stupid. I almost didn't eat for two days, but I am feeling so much better now. Like a weight out of my shoulders. I saw them, I faced them, and I could keep my composure and kindness.
