You said it: get out of your comfort zone. Get out, socialise, meet new people, try to get genuine interest in others (everyone, not only females, not only those you are attracted to). The purpose in to improve your social skills.
Once every 4 months (according to your story) is not often enough.

My next goal is asking girl to a date. I've liked one girl for about 3 years now and now I finally think that it's time to get to the next step. I don't usually enjoy talking to people, but with her, it's different.
