I just saw "Kingsman" and this Hemmingway quote popped up.

As the protagonist is finishing his training, he's well aware of his crude nature, and is looking forward to joining the ranks of the Kingsmen. He questions whether or not he will begin to learn to talk "propuhlee" like in "My Fair Lady."

Colin Firth tells him that being a gentleman isn't about talking properly, it's "about being at ease in one's own skin."

He then quotes Hemmingway:

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”

Remember who you are, who you were, and strive to be better than you ever were. Someone out there is better than you, and many people are worse than you. Feeling superior or inferior to them will always be a waste of your time. As you look to approach, refine your game, hit the gym, eat right, become more well read, become more cultured - inner game and outer game - remember that each day you should strive to be superior to your former self.
