Hey, Seddit!

Today, I am writing up my report on Day 2 of the Stylelife Challenge.

Here we go!

Day 2:

Mission 1: Set Your Goals-

This was another assignment. This focuses more on my general goals

1. What three accomplishments would you like to achieve to make you happier?

  • Improve my sex/love life
  • Start an online business
  • Travel the world

2. What are the reasons these accomplishments will make you happier?

  • I will have more control over this area of my life
  • I will work for myself and make an income to supplement my other activities
  • I will expand my mind as I see different cultures

3. What is your personal mission?

I will become an adventurer who will be free in life within 1 year.

4. List three specific results that will let you know that you've accomplished your mission.

1. I will have traveled to 1 country 2. I will have earned $50,000 in a year 3. I will have slept with 1 woman

5. Why are you now fully committed to pursuing your personal mission?

Because if I don't pursue it now, I will continue to suffer over the next years and

  • my wanderlust will get worse
  • my level of freedom will stay the same
  • my ability with women will decrease

But if I do pursue it now, I will enjoy the next years and

  • my sense of accomplishment will increase
  • my level of freedom will improve
  • my sex life will improve

Mission 2: Look into Your Eyes-

This was a self-hypnosis audio that you can download. It seems like they don't send it anymore when you sign up for the Stylelife Challenge with your e-mail, so I had to do some hunting to find it. I'm a little concerned about what I'll do for the future material that I'll need to download.

Anyway, I had a hard time following it. I'm not usually a big fan of this kind of self-help stuff, but I'll keep listening to it every other day.

Mission 3: Look into Their Eyes-

This was an extension of yesterday's field mission; you go out and make small talk with 5 people, but this time, you have to give them eye contact and make a note of their eye color. I'm usually pretty good about this, so it wasn't any more difficult than yesterday.

For today, I went to the mall. I wanted to try going out and getting some work done because I'm sick of staying in the house all the time. I had to take the bus since I don't have a car. I could have talked with people on the bus, but didn't.

1) Kind of a lame first attempt. I wanted to break a $5 at a kiosk and planned to ask them how their day was and if anything crazy was happening. However, when I got there, the lady was on the phone. So, I handed her the $5 and asked her to break it. I still managed to ask her how her day was, but obviously, she couldn't answer, but just smiled.

Her eyes were brown

2) I decided to grab some McDonald's and decided to talk to the guy ringing me up. I asked him how his day was going and he said pretty well.

His eyes were green

3) After a while, I decided to head to Starbucks to get some work done. I was in line purchasing a coffee and there was a girl in front of me. I mentioned how hard it was deciding what to get everytime I came here. She agreed and said she always felt like "a creature of habit" when making her decision.

Unfortunately, I didn't really make eye contact with her since she only looked halfway back at me. I couldn't remember the color of her eyes (they might have been blue).

4) When I got to the counter, I gave the lady my order and then asked her how her day was going. She said it was busy, but she was happy that she was working.

Her eyes were blue

5) I stalled for a while because I was doing some work. I had a couple of opportunities to talk with people, but ended up not. I was studying Japanese and sending out applications for work (mostly English teaching in Japan).

After I was done, I walked around the mall a bit and browsed. As I was walking, I saw a guy with a shirt that said "This guy needs a beer" right beside me. I pointed to the shirt and said "Hey, I hear ya!" He looked confused at first, so I clarified and I said "Your shirt!" He thanked me (not sure why; guess it took him off guard).

He had blue eyes

6) When I was walking to the bus station, I saw a girl walking next to me. When we reached the station, I commented on the weather and how it really seemed to improve. She agreed, but said she hadn't been out much today.

Her eyes were green

7) I was sitting down waiting for the bus when an older Indian fellow sat next to me. I asked him how it was going, and he said "It's going." He said he couldn't wait to get home and rest his legs. A really friendly guy.

He had brown eyes

8) After the Indian guy left, a black girl sat next to me. I asked her how it was going. She said hi. Didn't really seem to want to talk.

She had brown eyes

THINGS I LEARNED:

  • Just because there's a lull between approaching people, doesn't mean that I'm finished

THINGS I SHOULD IMPROVE ON:

  • I should figure out more topics for small talk. It seems like I always default to "how's it going," and while it's not necessarily a bad thing to say, I feel like I could have a little more variety.
  • I should be more willing to approach anyone. I guess on the bus, I felt awkward about talking to anyone since they're already settled in their seats. At the Starbucks, it seemed like everyone that sat next to me was busy (another lame excuse).
  • I should go out of my way more to talk to people. Sometimes, I'll see someone I could talk to, but choose not to because "that's not the way I'm heading."

Anyway, that's it for today's Field Report. Tomorrow, I take on one of the more challenging assignments. I always seem to have a hard time getting passed this one. If you took it before, feel free to give me tips!
