It might depend on the situation but generally I think its best to ignore them. They are trying to evoke a negative reaction out of you... Dont give it to them. If you can, be positive. Eg. a guy friend of yours is dating a girl mutual friend and is trying to flaunt that he has better "game" than you. When he is boasting about it congratulate him and say your happy for him instead of sulking or whatever.

Is your SO psychotic enough to cheat on you to make you jealous? If yes, RUN TO THE HILLS, he/she doesn't deserve your concern. If not, well, you're on your own. 1st hand experience got me only so far on decision tree.
