I am by no means a player, I'm a computer science major in my junior year but I consider myself less of a geek than the majority of the people in the classes I attend. In the past year I've focused on improving myself in as many ways as possible, here's a summary of what I did:
- Cut my hair to be above my eyebrows, gradually getting shorter and shorter since my high school days
- Bought button-down shirts and stopped wearing tacky graphic tees of splattered neon paint and UFOs
- Used nice shampoo and conditioner (I use Crew for men), it makes a difference
- Invested in good quality tweezers, periodically removing excess eyebrow hair
- Go to the gym at least 3 times a week, eating healthier
- Got back into running, do one distance run every Friday
- Teeth whitening strips every day (30 min) for a month, my teeth aren't bad, but these only made it better
That's what I can think of off the top of my head. By the time I started noticing results from the gym and going through the box of teeth whitening strips, I've noticed that the playing field of confidence levels between girls and myself have evened out, if not being tipped in my favor. Running is a HUGE confidence booster, I run on Fridays because when I go out to party, I am in the mindset of 'I just ran 12 miles, I am a fucking machine!' and it helps me become the cocky joker of the group. The point of all this is, to become confident enough to feel that the girl has to prove herself to YOU, and not the other way around.
After ~9 months of these changes, I met a girl and we became FWB, which is perfect for me since I don't have time to deal with the emotional baggage that comes with a relationship due to academics. Reading seddit helped me easily identify some of the cues of the attraction game and allowed me to follow up with the appropriate actions (thanks guys!). When I first met this girl, neither of us were sober, so I negged the shit out of her for all the sloppy things she was saying, and then destroyed all her shit tests and attempts at negging me (can't give advice for this, you just got to say the right thing fast). I stopped negging after the day we met since I knew I passed the qualification phase, and from that point I had her in the palm of my hand. What I found works well for me, is to act really cute and really aggressive when escalating, but your mileage may vary.
Also, don't communicate through text. If she texts you, wait a bit, call her, give her an answer then talk about something else or set up some plans. If there is a lot of tension, it only takes one silly joke or comment to eliminate all of it as long as you can maintain conversational flow.
