I think a lot of guys have the tendency to get very chatty with girls via text message after getting a number (myself included). Ideally, you get a girl's number. Talk about a few niceties. Then make plans to meet up in person. Don't focus on trying to smooth it out with hours of text message conversation. Only bad things can result from that.
The reason I bring this up is because a Tinder match reinforced this point to me recently. She was a cute German girl, far and above more attractive than most you find on Tinder. I talk to her for a while, then ask for the number. She gives it to me, we talk some more via text message. Then I ask if she would like to get some coffee on X day. She says that sounds like fun, but can't because she will be away this weekend. No problem, I tell her that I'll reconnect with her when she gets back.
I text her again a couple days later, and we chat some more about her weekend trip to NYC. Then I ask her if she's free on Tuesday for coffee. No response. I check back 20 minutes later and it's clear she blocked me on Whatsapp.
What's the moral of the story? Well she either A) never had interest in meeting up in real life in the first place or B) had interest, but lost it through excessive texting.
Asking for a girl's number quickly and being pushy when it comes to making plans will weed out girls in scenario A, since they want little more than to text you and keep you at arms length. And girls in scenario B, you need to make plans with as soon as possible because you are just Tinder match #9787 to her until you actually meet in person and escalate.
Either way, you don't want to give a girl the validation of being text buddies when she isn't interested, and you will win brownie points by being upfront with your intentions with women.
