I went on a weekend trip with some friends to the coast. I met a new girl that was cute and we got along really well. The first night, we were kinoing a lot, and I even got her to go along with the "12 hour boyfriend" thing that I read about in someone else's FR a couple weeks back. Things were going well until the afternoon of the second day.
We were taking a walk alone. I had overheard her talking about some guy "Not a boyfriend. Not a friend. Just a person" and she had been a bit back and forth with receiving the kino. She mentioned she wanted to move because she doesn't like our town. I asked why and she said she couldn't find a boyfriend. She ended up admitting she'd just broken up with her boyfriend of 3.5 years a month earlier and she wasn't over him yet.
That shot my game right in the fucking heart. After that I got real quiet and sullen -- to the point she had to ask if I was okay. I just said I was tired, which was also true, but obviously not the whole truth. When we went back to the hotel, I went off on my own to get drunk and pout alone. I ran into her later in the night and basically said "I want to ask you out, but it's not fair to me or you, because you're not over your ex-boyfriend yet." I then left and got more drunk alone.
I was trying to understand why it upset me so much. I had just met her, so it wasn't like I was emotionally invested in liking her. I think the fact that it shook me out of my game and back into the habits of my old, AFC self upset me more than the situation itself. Even though I knew what was happening, I just slipped further into my old self -- especially after I got drunk. I had zero motivation to even try to get back into state.
The third day, she was noticeably more quiet and detached -- she spent a great deal of time either talking on her phone or texting. I was in a much better mood for the most part and I tried to get her to open up a bit, but she seemed much less interested in me than before. I didn't even get her phone number because on the first day I went swimming and forgot I had my phone in my pocket. I added her on Facebook. Is there any way to salvage this?
there doesn't seem to be anything here
