When talking to people you should atleast try to fake some interest and just listen to what people have to say. Often what people say are stories about themselves or hidden meanings of what they want in life. Then you can relate to their stories with a story of your own. If you can not do that, you should try to gain more knowledge and experience more in life.

If however your friends only want to talk about things like football/japanese minifigures then I suggest meeting new people.

Also, read Dale Carnegie's great book How to win friends and influence people.

I feel like I've had a similar problem before. I used to not be able to talk to anyone because my head was always in the clouds completely occupied by myself, the future, philosophy, existentialism and other bullshit. Small talk seemed to take up too much energy to be worth it.

If you want something to talk about...why not just think of a question that you don't have the answer to then ask the first person you see what they think? Maybe you don't think that anyone else's opinion is as valid or as likely to be "correct" as your own but I dunno, have faith in humanity; people might surprise you. and if they don't you can always gloat/make fun of them...which feels good sometimes.
