I don't think that word means what you think it means:

Coerce: Persuade (an unwilling person) to do something by using force or threats

There is no coercion in pickup.

Pickup is about effectively communicating who you are (and what makes you interesting) to the opposite sex.

Take two equally interesting people: One has low self-confidence, is a forever alone and doesn't understand the opposite sex. The other can approach a group of people, comfortable talk to them and knows how to lead a romantic encounter. Don't tell me the second one isn't going to do 100x better than the first even if they are equally interesting.

There are weaselly and manipulative guys, for sure, just like there are many women like that. That isn't inherent to pickup, that is part of humanity. Nothing in pickup requires you to be like that, and the really good PUA definitely aren't.

Then you, and every single woman you have spoken to about it don't understand what PUA is about.

Every relationship, and most FWB I have talked to about PUA in detail (and they have seen FR I have posted about our first few dates), and none of them think it is tacky. They are all smart, confident and independent strong women.

I do try to see it from your perspective, in fact I am writing a guide "Thinking like a woman" on how to approach PUA from woman's point of view and going into reasons of why certain things work.

Survival of the fittest.

I think you should re-read some books on evolution before using that phrase. Look at peacocks, whose ability to reproduce is governed by their sexual attractiveness rather than strength or intelligence. The fittest means best chance to reproduce which means PUA.

I don't believe PUA "works" women like they are clay. Most successful PUA guys have high standards when it comes to women, and we wouldn't want any women who could be manipulated or "molded".

I think if you and your circle of women would meet and have a conversation with a successful PUA you would have a much different view than however else you are being exposed to PUA.

To flip things around about "being yourself", please look at all your women's magazines at the checkout counter. There are ENDLESS guides to tricking men into relationships, applying makeup and clothing to change your attractiveness, how to use sex to manipulate a guy into relationship or doing things for you, and many more really shady practices if you flipped the sexes. We might have books and websites, but you have monthly magazines available in every grocery, book and convenience store across the country.

I don't believe two wrongs make a right, but before you start throwing around words like tacky and coercion, should take a look at own sexes practices and really see how things line up.
