I live in the city, in a very nice part. I found cheap rent because it's near the flight path (if you do this, and it's one of the best options, make sure you have a place with DOUBLE WINDOWS). Assuming your job is in the city, it saves gas. Don't go out to eat or drink unless you're with or picking up a chick, it's wasted money. Happy Hours. Figure out a decent utility budget (I didn't have cable, just internet), furnish with discount stuff--you'd be surprised what you can get at the Salvation Army or myhabit.com's home section for cheap. That was my guidebook to having an awesome bachelor pad at 23
