Advice for a newbie heading into a promising situation in the near future?

Hello Seddit, I have been reading the sidebar material and working my way through The Game by Strauss since I decided to take the plunge a couple of weeks ago. I am going into college and orientation is soon. At orientation there is a mixer/ low-key party ( line dancing only, chaperones everywhere, etc.) I was looking for any and all advice on what I could do to prepare and what to do the night of the event. There will be a lot of people there so it is a perfect chance for me to learn how to approach and try lots and lots of sets. My goals are very small, at this point I would consider isolating from a set a success and a #- close a jackpot ( start small right?) Here are my questions: 1. What should I review/focus on when approaching 2. What are some things I may not know that I should be aware of 3. Anything else?

Edit: wrong word. I meant isolate not infiltrate. Stupid phone.

I appreciate the input in advance. This is on the 29 th- 30th. So I will post an FR afterwords if anyone would be interested in helping me debrief. Thanks again!

TLDR; perfect event coming up for a newbie to get some approach practice on, any advice?

What are you kidding? This is a mixer, the college is throwing this party with the specific intention of getting people to introduce themselves to each other, and start their social circles.

This isn't high school, where you're pushed together with people that have nothing in common except their birth year. This is college, where you get to choose subjects interest you, what classes to take, and what people to associate with. College is specifically designed to put people together that have the same interests.

You should be able to open a dozen sets or more, easy. What you should do is introduce yourself to everyone, and ask about their interests. Oh you're an econ/compsci/physed/ee major? That's interesting, tell me more. Most of the people there are more scared than you. If you show the least bit of initiative in introducing yourself to people, you will be a social leader. Remember you don't have to be THE alpha dog of the room. You only have to be more interesting than average. That's not hard.

Now go find some people that you have something in common with. Start building a social circle of people like yourself. Get some numbers and plan some events as school starts, like going out for drinks. But don't forget that there is one group you should always consider as having the same interests: women. You have a common interest in sex.
