I got off work, showered, and went to the opening night of a big music festival. I was there from about 5:30 to 11, however I didn't really do anything until about 9:30. Prior to that I just walked around aimlessly wanting to approach, but didn't.

I went to the downtown area where people more my age were. There was a huge group of people at the end of the street. I wandered around in the group and I made eye contact with a guy trying to pick up a couple girls. I started talking to him as if I knew him and then he introduced me to the girl he was trying to get with. Here's roughly how the conversation went:

Him: "This is (girl), her and I have been talking for a bit, she's really cool!" He pulled her close to him.

Me: I introduced myself and asked if they were dating.

Him: "Nah, I'd like too though."

Me: "Well how about this, why don't you two go out..." I nudged the girl next to him and he put his arm around her and at this point I saw another girl in the group with them, put my arm around her shoulder, and pulled her next to me, and said continued saying this "...and you and me will go with them, sound good?"

She kind of pulled away and her friend playfully knocked my arm away. I tried to get the other girl back next to me but she wasn't having it, and I didn't feel like I was in a position to try again. The guy and his girl eventually stayed together the night, and he thanked me for helping. I got his number and he kept mentioning how he owed me for this.

I also noticed that within the group of people I was wandering in, just about all the guys were trying to do the same thing I was.

I felt really good after that, I wanted to approach on my own but AA was still preventing me. Towards 11 (when things were closing down) I said to myself "Fuck it, it's now or never." I approached (if you want to call it that) three girls in the span of about twenty minutes. I used the the same opener for all three, and looking back it was probably a stupid opener. I said to them all "I like your outfit, I have one just like it at home!" Here's a quick summary of all three:

One: I opened, she laughed, playfully hit my chest, and kept walking. I tried to be persistent but she wouldn't stop.

Two: She said thanks and went back to talking to her friends. Again I tried to continue a conversation but she just gave me a look and I walked off.

Three: She was sitting on a table, I opened and she laughed a little. I continued talking and she continued too. I could tell she didn't seem like she wanted to talk to me but I went on for a few more seconds. Eventually the conversation stopped and I walked off.

After tonight I realized this will be a lot harder than I thought. But I have nine more days of the festival to try.
