Last night I was really in the mood to go dancing but I waited too late to ask people to go. I would have just stayed home but I had to go to one of the clubs downtown to pick something up. When I left I went to a dancehall that plays about 70/30 country to hip hop ratio.

When I got inside I was hugely disappointed with the turn out and made a quick lap to see what was going on. Now this dancehall is a very large venue, so if its not packed it can look pretty dead. That happened to be the case last night, and I was quickly regretting my decision to waste my money on cover.

There was one group however, of about 15-20 girls that was mostly HB 9's and HB 10's talking in smaller groups of 4-5. You could tell most of the smaller group made up one larger group. Each of the smaller groups had a guy or two with them, and this entire group made most of the club look rather plain.

So I grabbed me a water, (I rarely drink when I go out) and sit watching the dancefloor for about 10-15. After being disappointed with the turn out I seriously needed to reframe. I came to have fun and dance.

I make another lap and all the groups of two or three have at least one dude talking to them. I finish my lap and decide I'm not wasting my night. I'm just going to ask the first cute girl I see. I start walking again and and go straight to a group of 4 girls (3 HB10's and 1 HB 9) and 1 guy.

They are all in the middle of conversation and I interrupt by touching a 10 (Amanda) on the back and saying "I'm sorry to interrupt, but would you like to dance?" For a split second everyone is quite waiting on her reaction. She says "I dont know" leaning away but with a big smile on her face. Before I could respond her friend (Ashley) pushes her to me and says "oh just go dance"

Awesome! I lead her to the floor and we start dancing and making small talk. As soon as we started she apologized saying "Im sorry I dont really country dance" Then she says "Sorry if I'm trying to lead." (which she was) I tell her "Its ok, a lot of girls do that. Do you usually dance with girls?" she starts laughing and says "no I dance with guys!" I say "oh, well you are a really firm dancer, and that's usually an indication of a girl who is used to leading." The song ends and I tell her ""We'll just keep going."

So we dance a little more and a little more small talk. Then I ask her again "Are you sure you don't usually dance with girls?" she is really bubbly and replies "No-ah! I dance with guys" I laugh and say "ok" she then tells me she doesn't country dance often. I said "what do you usually do? hip hop?" she very hesitantly replied "no its a different kind of dance" Instantly in my head I thought wow she does not look like a stripper. She would have been the classiest stripper I had ever seen. lol Again I ask "ok what kind?" "Oh very cool" we talk about that for a bit and I tell her that I used to know a few girls on her team about 10 years ago. ( thinking back now its closer to 15) I was just a kid and they worked for my mom.

We danced about 7-8 songs total and the the 'Cotton Eyed Joe' comes on. I explain its a group line dance so we go grab her friends. I as if any of them know it and they say no. I get in between a couple of them and show them the moves. They pick it up faster than anyone I have ever taught it to. granted its one of the easy ones, but they had it after the second time. And that is crazy fast!

After the 'Cotton Eyed Joe' a hip hop song comes on. We start dancing a little and she introduces me to 3-4 girls and 1 guy. She did miss a couple guys I saw with them earlier so I introduced myself to them.

Up to this point things were going great, conversation was flowing, she was laughing a lot, and she danced well. As soon as her friends got there however the dynamic change completely. I was no longer involved. Their body language has me boxed out. I am getting a strong feeling I am no longer welcome. I talk a little bit to the dude trying to stay involved. And he is really quite so eventually conversation dies.

I go grab me another water and head back out there to join them. Again thou I don't feel like part of the group. When country songs come back on they walk off the dance floor and I walk away separately with my tail between my legs.

I figure I'm not going to waste my night fretting I ask an HB6 to dance but completely misread the situation. she was talking to her friend HB5 and her brother. I thought he was just some dude who came up to hit on them. she said no and They did not want me around. I'm thinking 'chick I'm doing you a favor. Im slummin it right now.' Whatever I make a joke about having aspergers and not being able to read social ques when people want me to leave. She gives me a dumb look and says "huh?" The guy closes me out and I walk away. Whatever.

A good song comes on, so I head to ask the Amanda to dance. As Im walking up I notice she is telling a story to the group. her friends notice me walk up and look at me which get her to stop her story "Hey t_d_d" Hey I was coming over hear to see if you wanted to dance again, but I see your'e in the middle of a story." I guess she didnt hear me correctly because she responded "Oh I would but I'm telling a story. Take Ashley she would love to dance." I said "No thats ok I'm sure she wants to hear your story too." nope turns out shes heard it. Sweet I take her to the floor and she too was apologizing for not knowing how to country dance.

I show her the basics but these girls are amazing dancers. (Just goes to show everyone is insecure sometimes.) Ashley is a great follower I just have to show her a few tips and tricks and we are dancing like a partners who have danced together for years. We talk and have a good time while dancing for about 7-8 songs as well then head back.

Back at the table I grab a seat between Ashley and Amanda. I lean into Amanda and say "I will take you to dance in a minute just let me rest for a second" :-) while at the table there are multiple conversations going on. A few of the girls came by and complimented my dancing. A couple of them ask me to teach them as well. I just showed them the basics by the table because they didnt want to go to the floor. (pretty sure she was with fer bf)

As the conversation continues I find the girls have shifted again and Im talking to Brent again. Not a problem this time because I feel more solid in their group and he has actually started to converse. I find out that he has oneitis for one of the cheerleaders who is across the dance floor all over another dude. I give him a few pointers. like just have fun and the girls will flock to you. people want to be around people that are fun stuff like that. I tried to get him to take one of the other girls to dance but he said he cant dance. I told him everyone starts somewhere. We all suck at some point even the girls. granted they were probably about 5. lol Then I told him to dance with Amanda because she is firm and will help guide him until he is better.

after that I go dance some more with Amanda then Ashley. I probably danced about 45 min to an hour with each of them. While dancing with Ashley I tell her that Brent should dance with Amanda so he can learn. so we go to them and she gets them to go dance. We sit and talk she shows me some of their cheer leading pictures because I had teased her about them making it up.

While we are sitting there we watch them dancing and I grab her and say lets go dance next to them so I can give him some pointers. So now we are all dancing together, and things are going great. Things go really well for the rest of the night up until 2. We are all leaving and I have not ask for a number yet. (Stupid)

Since we are all leaving now I have to ask, and it was not smooth. Our amazing night was capped off with this awkward exchange...

Amanda: Are you leaving too?

me: yeah Im going to head out. can I get your numbers? (pointing at both of the girls)

Ashley: Im sorry I have a boyfriend. I'm dating someone.

Amanda: Yeah Im dating someone.

me: thats ok Im just looking for a dance partner.

Amanda: ok

Ashley: yeah give him your number

Amanda: ( she made some comment about just being careful who she give her number to. I dont really remember)

me: dont worry I wont stalk you...much

Amanda: no Im not worried about you stalking me lol

me: oh great then I will stalk you lol

I get her number and we exchange hugs. then I tell her I will text her in a sec so she can add me. Here is the really really awkward part.

me to Brent: so since you are new her you probably don't know many people? (he moved here in december from another state and coincidentally went to HS with Ashley in that state)

Brent: no not at all

Me: if you want we can exchange numbers and I can show you around the city. maybe we can do lunch or dinner sometime? (WTF! why did I just say dinner. I think I regretted that before I finished the word lol)

Brent: yeah that would be cool. and thanks for the help tonight.

me no problem

I got brents number gave the girls one last hug and left. On the way out I texted Amanda "hey its t_d_d. text me next time yall want to go dancing" no I didnt confirm it was real. today I texted her again saying "hey I had a lot of fun hanging out with you last night. I cant wait to do it again." I should have added this line. (did you see the chicks getting arrested?)

I was bragging about my night today and pulled up Amandas twitter today, I saw that she mentioned me me in conversation with Brent. Im paraphrasing to make it more dificult for you reddit PI to track her.

she said 'So much fun. Our buddy t_d_d made us all look bad though...haha boy can move.'

TLDR: learn to dance and you can pull anyone!! was out by myself and asked a hot blonde to dance. She turned out to be a proffessional cheerleader, and I ended up teaching her and her friends (also pro cheerleaders) to dance. Got one number and she mentioned me on twitter.
