I'm in a singing group on campus. We act like a boyband and the sororities love it. I'm also pretty much an oaf who has no game. Today while reading my book and waiting to order coffee before class, the girl behind me in line exclaimed "Oh y'all were so good yesterday!" I replied "Thanks," but I didn't really have much to say, so I forced a little small talk and asked her about her coffee, major, sorority, etc... . After a few minutes and most of the line passed, I got bored and went back to reading.

That sort of situation has happened repeatedly before, but I have never figured out how to deal with compliments. I really love to know that other people enjoy our performances, but I don't know how to respond in a way that is humble and interesting.

"Oh you guys were so good yesterday!"
* "Thanks. We love performing for you."

That's the best I can come up with. I'm really only good at crafting really stupid one liners and puns. Any ideas? How do I turn this sort of thing in to an open conversation? Maybe my head was just cloudy from early morning exhaustion, but I should be able to get a phone number whenever that happens, shouldn't I?
