You are spot on with the constant positive attitude. One little trick you could try is jokingly laugh about her inability to keep up with you. She will of course try and defend herself and this perfectly opens up the opportunity for you to drop the "well then come back to my place for a couple drinks" line. Just something that has worked for me. Good work and keep it up!

All it was was some bullshit about how the bouncers like to take their time to let people in, and asking her how her night has been so far. I think the key here was just keeping a positive tone to everything I was saying, as though I'm constantly having the best time I possibly could have.

Actually, I'd contend that, while the positive attitude was also important/key, the fact that you were making a comment about the current situation that you were both experiencing, was AWESOME. You got inside of her head and commented on something that she was probably thinking about..... you jumped onto her thought train instead of derailing it or stopping it. This is often underrated.

After an hour or so of hooking up and dancing, she said she was going to head home. I got her number, then walked back to my car and drove home.

While I'm glad I went out tonight and something actually eventuated from it, what sort of things could I say to try escalate the situation and head back home with her, without sounding like a complete sleaze ball? I feel like it was a slight failure in that respect, as I'm still pretty shit at picking up girls and have a LOT to learn in terms of confidence, reading girls' reactions, keeping interesting conversations going etc.

More good work..... Don't second guess yourself here! While it's possible that you could have built things up so that you brought her home..... it sounds like you followed a more natural path, which is not bad, either. I personally believe that there's a lot to be said for allowing things to progress at a "natural" rate, not always pushing for a first night close.

If you want to see her again, I'd recommend texting her the day after, at some point. (Even a short message the same night, is not bad.) Just to say that you enjoyed meeting her and had a good time, etc.

Depending on her reaction, she may either feed you an opportunity to propose meeting up with her later...... or if it's a positive reaction, just go for it and propose something. It doesn't even have to be complicated. Perhaps keep a few places in mind: a place to get food, a place where you can sit and chat without being kicked out, and a place to go walking (preferably with a place you could stop, sit, and "chat" for a spell, if the vibe is good).
