This is borderline /r/relationships material, but what the hell.....

Basically: I'm interested in girl A, she's interested in me, we've gone on a date that went well. We're definitely going to two formals together.

Girl B is really just a friend. she's attractive, but platonic. I'm actually interested in Girl A. By doing this, am I going to piss girl A off?

I think you knew the answer to this before you asked. But perhaps you were looking for a magic solution where you could have your cake and eat it too.

There is no such thing. If you're looking for something serious with Girl A, then pulling something like this without talking to her about it first, would screw your chances because of the shitty communication you'd be displaying.

For another third formal though, she's actually running it, and told me upfront she'd be really busy during it.

So.... why didn't you ask if you could help? It might give you something to do since you seem fixated on what you'll be doing while she's busy.

For the third one, could I just bring girl B instead, and tell girl A something like "sure if you're free we can dance, if not don't worry I brought someone with me"?

Again, if you're serious about Girl A, this is something you could only do if you passed it by her first. If she was cool with you hanging out with a friend, then clearly there is no harm in it.

But showing up to the dance and dropping this on her...... ugh. You know this would be a bad idea.

If you don't have the confidence to bring this up to her beforehand and have a honest conversation about it, then go stag and enjoy yourself with your other friends while she's busy and be with her when she can. (Honestly, she may be busy, but if she's into you, chances are that she will WANT to spend the free time she has, with you.)
