I was downtown tonight, hanging out at bars and drinking with some friends, and even reconnected with some old high schools friends from WAY back when. Made some good reconnections and conversation along the way and I believe this, for some reason, inspired me to be the most outgoing i've been in a long while. Before I left the city to head home, I decided to make a goal of talking to 20 strangers with variations of the simple phrase "Hey, hope you had a great night, get home safe.", as well as validating it with a handshake or high-five. I hit that goal rather quickly and decided to keep going, and within about a 10 minute period I was up to 50 different people. Well, to make it even more fun, I kept approaching strangers with the simple phrase and handshake gesture, and reached a goal of 100 people before I headed home for the night. I didn't count anyone who wouldn't shake my hand, or at least give a high-five. Although it may seem odd on the surface, this exercise was extremely cathartic, liberating, and even fun, for me. I suggest trying it to boost your confidence, expand your breadth of social experience, and even just for pure shits and giggles.
