Scenario: Five Star Restaurant with scenic water views. Date (no wedding rings, and obviously not a dinner with a relative) between people in their late 30s early 40s. She is more attractive than he is (cougar material), but guy seems like a pretty cool guy. (talked to him for a bit while she was in the bathroom)
Ok, so they're sitting at one of the best tables in the place directly overlooking the water, set for two with a candle and the couple sitting across from each other. I go over to the table, and I can tell that this is a date. His body language gives off that he is maybe too excited to be there, and a tad unsure how to proceed. Hers is a bit assertive, and a tad dismissive towards me. (Keep in mind that I am only one person, and I have a view of it from afar, but close in every few minutes. There will necessarily be bias, but some of the interactions that I will further explain inform my judgments.)
When I go to take the order, they inquired about the raw bar selections that we have, specifically her about the shrimp. They were going to order a couple of salads and share them, and get some shrimp to go with them. He seemed high on getting the shrimp, but she wasnt sold immediately. She asked what size they were, and when I told her that they were jumbo shrimp ( U-12 for anyone who is a foodie/in the business), she decided that she was no longer interested.
When I asked him if he still wanted some, he replied with, "No, not if she doesn't." There was a back in forth between them if he should get them, she saying he should if he wants them... etc. They end up not getting the shrimp, even though I could tell that he wanted them.
At this point I realize that he does not really know how to act around this woman. I take an interest in watching them (even though I have a full station, I observe them when I can) and I try to see how the date is going. They do leave their table for a little while and go down to the water for the sunset, which allows the other tables to clear out, so when they come back it is just them and two other tables. (Significant for me, as I can spend more time near the table)
I watch his body language, and it is all of the things that one is warned against on this website. She is sitting properly, yet appears comfortable, and it looks as though he is leaning over to her hanging on every word. He is slouched forward, elbow on the table, leaning forward like he is afraid that he is going to miss a word that she says. At this point, I wanted to go over there and be like... DUDE. SIT UP. It is quite obvious that its a one way conversation, and he is merely there to nod, interject when she stops talking, and of course, pick up the check.
When they left, there was no physical contact between them, she walked slightly in front of him, and all the $150 got him was an excuse to sit across from her at a table.
Tl;Dr: Observed a date, he was more into it than she was... maybe what they say is true, that most communication is non-verbal. Don't think it'll go anywhere.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
