So I need to get this off my chest. In a quest to expand my social circles I joined a single's softball league. The games are fun and all the teams get a couple free pitchers of beer after the games. So in addition to softball, the organizers set up a few other events. Tonight's event was a booze cruise. I was pretty excited for this but after tonight I learned that I still have a lot to work on.

The plan was to meet up at a bar, have a few drinks and food, then head over to the ship for more drinking and dancing. I am going by myself but because I'm with a group of people in this softball league it doesn't feel like I'm soloing. I get to the bar and I immediately fall into bad habits. I stay quiet and reserved. Conversations are going on all around me but I found it difficult to include myself in them. This is a theme that will continue for a good portion of the night. In addition to me staying quiet, the conversations that are going on are dominated by two or three guys. These guys were extremely flirty with all of the gals and it worked. As much as I was looking up to these guys for being social beasts I couldn't shake this feeling of arrogance from them. These guys are better at seduction but they definitely were not the type of guy that I wanted to be. Just something to note I guess.

Anyways, the night was long but there really isn't too much more to say. I danced with groups of people and had some fun. I tried to isolate some girls I was dancing with but was politely shot down. I did have a nice opener with a girl but after talking for five minutes, her friends came by and I got pushed out of the conversation through my own inaction.

So I may not have acquired any numbers but I can still learn from this experience and move forward. I guess I need to get out of my passive mentality and break out of my comfort zone.
