I went to a cafe today to work, and chose to sit next to this cute (cute, not very pretty or 'beautiful' but appealing) girl. After a few minutes of sitting and working on my laptop, I recognized the book she was working with (writing notes).
Me: Is that the same stuff as xxxxxxx?
Her: Yeah, it's the same author :)
May I take look?
sure!
--ruffles some pages, notices her annotations---
me: You had to annotate an entertaining book like this one? How soul-crushing...
her: I know right! But I guess once you start looking at it this way it gets easier :giggle:
me: so you're a student? english literature?
her: yes, and...
... and so on blah blah blah for some time. I could tell that she was happy to talk to me, but I did not have the courage to move forward. I just asked for her name, and said, "well, cool to meet you, xyz :)" and stopped.
That's when I logged in to the seddit irc, because I was "working" on my laptop this was easy to do discreetly. BIG SHOUT OUT TO YOU GUYS OVER THERE, thank you for egging me on to get the number. Also thanks for the tip about leaving immediately.
Me: Hey, I gotta go now, I'd love to meet you again. May I have your number?
Her: sure, here it is: xyxaasdf.
I gave her a call right there so she had mine, then "Pleasure. Bye!", and left.
My first real world success. YESSS! Thanks, seddit. I'm taking her out to lunch this weekend.
