So I went to my prom yesterday, and I was hyped: pre-gamed and looked my best, and I was ready to have FUN; I didn't go with the intention of #-closing or anything like that. I believe you have to go and get into state, and the rest will come. So, I get there, and I start talking to everyone, making friends and getting to know people by name (it wasn't my school prom, but I knew a few people there from past events). I believe the bit of alcohol I had helped me with the initial anxiety I feel when entering these events, but let me be honest here: I don't recommend that anyone use alcohol to be more "socially lubricated". I did, but I PLANNED to do so, so I used it to my advantage. I meet a few people that walked in with dates (including this girl with a flower-print dress, keep this in mind).
This is where the fun begins.
2 hours in, the dance floor opens up, and I join in with a few friends. We start dancing and having a good time. Once we all got IN STATE, we decided to actually look for people (not necessarily girls, because we just wanted to have a good time with whoever we met) to dance with. I made eye contact with flower-print dress - let's call her C - and the game was on. I looked at her directly and told her "we're dancing. Right now". Naturally, C took my hand and we danced. The music slowed and it became a slow song, and I asked for her name after we danced for less than a minute. After the exchange, we danced for a bit more before we made eye contact and made out for a bit (so not even a minute after I meet her this happens). Goes on for a few minutes, and we leave the dance floor, and start talking a bit more, but ultimately it was more "fluff" than anything, and she goes back to her group after we exchanged numbers. I didn't get her number and leave, but did that thing from The Game where you make a girl kiss you on the cheek, except I turned my head around playfully and we kissed again.
Directly after she leaves, I get back on the dance floor and have a blast. I grab a girl here and there from my group and from other groups, and we all dance together. Every now and then, when I find these two girls that know each other (after a bit of light banter outside the dance floor, so I knew them), I bring them both in by being direct and telling them that we're going to dance right now, and we all dance together. Fast forward to the last song, and C looks at me and I make the "come here" motion to her. I did so with good posture and eye contact, so I believe that's why she seemed excited to dance again. We dance and kiss here and there, and I told her it was nice meeting her today (I don't know why, she seemed like an interesting person so I told her). Music stops, she tells me to text her and leaves with her group - apparently her "date" was just her cousin, and she doesn't go to school at the prom I was in, but used to and wanted to see old friends. So, I guess I made a sort-of date there.
I went outside and played the piano that was outside for a bit, and this girl WALKS UP TO ME and asks me what else I know, my name, and so on. She was cute, and when she said she was about to leave, I told her to stop, and that we should exchange numbers. We did, she leaves.
WHAT I COULD HAVE IMPROVED ON:
I needed better phrasing for calling her over. The music wasn't loud enough that she didn't hear, but bringing someone to dance with you is more non-verbal than verbal (I fixed my mistake later on, though)
Between dances with C, I asked her to dance maybe 30 minutes after we initially met. She said "later". My advice to all and myself is to continue to be the life of the party, and not focus on one person
WHY WHAT I DID WORKED:
I was confident in what I did. It may have been alcohol at first, but then it was all me. I got in state and nothing could stop me. Therefore, if you get in state before getting to know others, it makes it so any kind of approach is easier. You'll be more confident, and rejection will not phase you, because you're having a good time.
I was direct. I didn't beat around the bush, and I made eye contact with everyone I spoke to. When I danced with C, I went for the kiss after a bit of that triangle gazing thing. She was shocked at what happened, and even said that she never kissed a stranger before, and I just shrugged and continue to do my thing. If you do things without a hint of lack of confidence, then you usually end up getting your way.
