Trying to copy stuff that people said, won't help you so much. It's the MINDSET that will help you. It doesn't matter so much what you say, so much as how well you pay attention.

Ask someone something. It depends on the age group, which you didn't specify in any way, shape, or form. You could ask what they're studying. You could ask what they do for work. You could ask how long they've lived in the area. If you caught any of the conversation that was going on when you arrived, you could ask a question about what they were discussing. You could even make a comment or pose a question about something in that moment that is happening right then.
After you do that, you follow-up by PAYING ATTENTION to what they say. When they're talking, you DON'T think about anything. You don't think about what you're going to say. Focus on the words coming out of their mouth. When they pause, THEN take a second to process what was just said and say something related to what they just said. Ask a follow up question. Make a comment. Then ask a related question to keep the conversation going.

I know how you feel but the best way to improve is to get out there and start your own conversations! Start with hello, and get her name if you have to and work from there. Yes you will get alot of rejections, even laughed at if your really that bad but they ALL are added to your experience bank = the begger = the better. My advice is to go somewhere where there is already a specific interest/topic and get the feel for talking to women in general. Even if it is just for confidence.
