Prologue, Reader's Digest Version

I am new to the area. I now live four blocks from at least six bars of varying styles and demographics. I want to bed women from all six demographics. I do not know how.

April 7: Work has handed down goal setting guidelines. I wonder how setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound) goals can help me bed women from six demographics?

I found this post by GK, a former Charisma Arts coach. Gears spin. A list of the days remaining in my contract forms. A modest goal is formulated: Learn the name of one new girl every day until the end of the contract, starting tomorrow.

April 8: No new girl is approached. A woman at least forty years old who wonders about the marinade I am holding while waiting in line at the grocery store. Her name is Jackie. I am saved.

TL;DR planned, but not promised...

Today's Field Report and April 9 Girl Name

Exposition? Establishment? I am a thirty-five year old black male computer programmer who's known about pickup and seduction for at least five years, but never pushed himself much to achieve the kinds of success that turns ordinary guys into extraordinary men. (Thanks, Jordan)

With the goal of learning the name of one new girl for about the next seventy days, I figured tonight would be easy. Go down to the bar area, find a girl, ask her what her name is. I took a shower, put on some decent clothes, left everything but my keys on the table and headed out.

Many thoughts swam to the surface of my mind while I walked the four blocks. Don't approach girls in pairs, they're not there to talk to guys, they're there to hang out together. Look for girls in groups of three or more, or better yet, girls out on their own. And a hundred other game concepts that could optimize my efforts...or more likely, paralyze me in a state of real-time analysis.

As I approached the bars, I noticed far more activity than I would have expected, even for a Thursday. As I passed the first few bars (telling myself I would give the scene a once-over before commencing my mission), I noticed that there were a lot of art vendors set up on the street. Noticing a non-threatening dude, I asked him what was going on. P.S. No homo, some PUA wrote that if you're ignoring dudes while you're out, you're doing it wrong. I know myself enough to know that I need to talk to people, all people, everywhere, to get warmed up. Your mileage may vary, but if you spend your entire day talking to machines, any human interaction helps, especially if you're trying to get socially comfortable and charismatic enough to go out and fuck with women.

ANYWAY

Ray was a non-starter, as some couple took a shine to some of his butterfly sculptures (well, the heavier half of the couple, anyway). I moved on and went to the last bar on the line. I'll give away my position so I can get doxxed haxx0r3d and raeped and say that the last bar was Wildside, right across the street from 7-Eleven and across the corner from Antonio's Pizza (if you recognize the locales and want to wing with a noob, send those messages). I told myself, "Okay, I'm at the last bar on the line. I'm going to turn around, and ask the first hot girl I see what her name is. I'll say, "What's your name?" or, "My name is Zero, what's yours?" No, not enough leadup, maybe, "Hi, how is your evening? That's great. My name is Zero..." surely you get the idea.

Also, if you guessed that I walked straight past every last bar on that street, straight back to my apartment, and started reading the Internet for tactics to outsmart approach anxiety, you just won.

Now, many do not approve, but I must say, I would not even be writing this field report if I had not decided to rip off the skirt on not one, not two, but four beers before finding the [liquid] courage to take my happy ass back outside and, come hell or high water, learn the name of one girl. It's worth mentioning that I reviewed both this and this posts before deciding that I gave not enough fucks to do what I had to do. So, halfway through a third post (quite good logistical information in there, as a matter of fact), I had formulated a plan of attack.

First, I was going to ask my target if she knew the way to the aforementioned Wildside. Then, after she told me where to go, I would ask her what her name was (ostensibly to thank her, but actually to accomplish my goal). Then I would walk in the exact opposite direction, head back here, to my "apartment", where I would be able to go to sleep with no guilt, mission accomplished.

I was now wearing a t-shirt, exercise shorts, and sandals, having already given up before deciding to head back out. I didn't look anywhere near as good as I had in the decent clothes before, but I was comfortable. Comfort + 3x Stella Artois = relaxed, the state we want (I think?). So I made my way to the first bar, spotted the prettiest head of bleached-blonde hair I had seen all day, and navigated my way inside to ensnare my quarry. She and her friend (2-set confirmed!) were about to move to sit outside, when I tapped her on her arm and asked if she knew how to get to Wildside. She directed appropriately. I made like I was going to leave, then asked her what her name was. The slightest of hesitation could have been perceived, but Amanda still told me her name. I shook her hand, thanked her, then left the bar...headed in exactly the opposite direction she had advised, satisfied that I could finally head home at 11:14PM and lay my head down. Mission Accomplished.

Tomorrow: I remember reading a post suggesting any approach is better than none, and while walking home from learning Amanda's name, I imagined asking for a girl's number to be the next step up from where I'm at. Probably a case of trying to run too soon after learning to crawl, but if I'm feeling good, there might be some goal re-examination to be done. I just wish I didn't have to sleep for eight hours and talk to computers (and asshats) for another eight hours before getting back into it.

TL;DR: Geek unable to overcome approach anxiety sober drinks three beers and reads seddit posts, finagles girl into telling him what her name is.

Finally, I guess sharing this with you all is a way of keeping myself accountable. I will be here at least until June 30th. You can follow my (mis)adventures until the first month of summer. Should be entertaining, like Archer or Game of Thrones.
