This study was done by Marianne Bertrand of the Booth School of Business and Claudia Goldin and Lawrence Katz of Harvard). This study is of 2,500 men and women who graduated with MBAs from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.

Below, is an excerpt regarding this study from the book Naked Statistics by Charles Wheelan:

"According to the authors of the study discrimination is not a likely explanation for most of the gap. The gender wage gap fades away as the authors add more explanatory variables to the analysis. For example, men take more finance classes in the MBA program and graduate with higher grade point averages. When these data are included as control variables in the regression equation, the unexplained portion of the gap in male-female earnings drops to 19 percent. When variables are added to the equation to account for post-MBA work experience, particularly spells out of the labor force, the unexplained portion of the male-female wage drops to 9 percent. And when explanatory variables are added for other work characteristics, such as employer type and hours worked, the unexplained portion of the gender wage gap falls to under 4 percent."

"For workers who have been in the labor force more than ten years, the authors can ultimately explain all but 1 percent of the gender wage gap with factors unrelated to discrimination on the job. They conclude, 'We identify three proximate reasons for the large and rising gender gap in earnings: differences in training prior to MBA graduation; differences in career interruptions; and differences in weekly hours. These three determinants can explain the bulk of gender differences across the years following MBA completion.'"

This is a pretty solid study. Google scholar could probably help you out in finding more. This is just something that I've cited for one of my grad school classes...let me know if you have any questions.

During the debate between Obama and Romney, Obama mentioned he would strive for equal pay for women (everyone cheered, bluepillers got boners everywhere). Meanwhile, that truth checker in the background doing some research on every statement the debaters come out with, said that statement was inaccurate, because they couldn't find any sources that women were earning less than men, they just worked less.

Obama just knows what to say to the public to get women and men to vote for him.

If you COULD pay women less than men for the same work, nobody would ever employ men.

I like to point out the differences in manual labor and then point out the same also potentially applies to non-manual labor as well.

Say a man and a woman work unloading trucks.

The man spends 8 hours at work and gets paid $10/hr. He unloads 8 trucks in that time. This means it costs the company $10 for him to unload the truck for them.

The woman spends 8 hours at work and gets paid $10/hr too (you know equal pay for equal work). She unloads 7 trucks in that time. This means it cost the company $11.43 for her to unload the truck for them.

Effectively by being unable to do as much manual labor she's getting paid more for less work. Now when it comes down to hiring who would you hire? When it comes to firing who would you can first?

Equal pay for equal work would mean she would be getting paid $8.75/hr which would come out to $70 for an 8 hour shift which she can unload 7 trucks.
