Tl;dr: Event cancelled, made the most out of the situation. Got three numbers, one was a dud, one was leaving in a week, and one became a very fortunate friend.

So I was going to this singles event. It is near a college with tons of pretty women. On my way there I approached two girls, targeting the one I wanted with the question, “You look athletic. Do you know of any yoga places around here?” She did not. I then introduced myself to her and her friend. I then said to the girl I had to go and asked for her number. She gave it. Walking down the road I saw another cute girl. I approached her and said I love girls with short hair (she had short hair). I introduced myself and we had a light conversation on what she does. She turned out to be a student at the university nearby and was working with textiles. I said that she was really cute and asked for her number. She said yes and gave me her number. In my phone she put her first and last name too, which I think is a good sign. I was still early to the singles event, so I decided to approach more women. I approached one women saying “Your dress looks nice on you.” She thanked me, but when I asked for her number she said she was going to France in 2 hours. I did two other approaches that did not work out. One approach I complimented a woman’s shirt, but she just kept on walking. The other I asked for a female opinion, and she said to go away.

It turned out that the singles event was cancelled. Knowing I was in an area that was full of opportunities, I decided to make the most out of where I was. I went to the local bookstore and spotted a cute Asian chick. I asked her what books she was reading. We got to talking and it turned out she was leaving for New York that weekend. I ended up getting her Facebook. Here is where the real thriller comes. As I was walking out of a coffee shop, I see this gorgeous Filipino girl packing her stuff up. I ask her if she was studying biology. She said she was studying physics. Then somehow we got in to this long passionate conversation about healthcare in the United States. After a while I tell her she is awesome and beautiful and ask for her number. She gives it. She then says she is going to see the moon which is supposed to be a blue moon tonight and invites me to join her. I say yes and we start walking off. She says she is going there with her friend and we have to meet her friend first. We meet her friend, which turns out to be a guy. No worries, she explicitly stated it was her friend. We walk to the park, and on the way I try to make sure I am active in the conversation. A problem I have is I tend to stay silent while other people speak. We get to the park and wait for the sun to go down so we can see the moon.

The two of them are brilliant and go to an Ivy League school. While I was there it was hard to get a word in, but I made sure to try. We must have been there for two hours, talking about all facets of life. Then there were two unfortunates. First, the blue moon doesn’t show up. Second, in conversation she casually mentions she lives with her boyfriend. However I am not devastated. Both of them were really nice and incredibly smart, so I figured why not make two new friends. We give up on trying to see the blue moon and part ways. I make sure to hug her and shake the guy’s hand.

Later I text the two girls who I got phone numbers from. The girl with short hair responds, the other one does not. Turns out the girl with short hair is leaving in a week after finishing her class.

Lessons Learned: Always make the best out of every situation. My singles event was cancelled, so I did pickup on the street. It led to getting numbers which led to a nice friendship.
