As far as holding a conversation goes, I've found that (especially in group situations) asking questions and listening is really important. A lot of times, people with social anxiety focus on what they are going to say or do. This puts unnecessary pressure on yourself. The bottom line is that most people love talking about themselves. If you don't know what to say, ask questions, listen, respond and facilitate the conversation that way. If you find you have something in common, boom follow that path and see where it leads. Just realize not every encounter needs to end in a number, and holding a conversation isn't just about talking to girls either. It's just as important to be able to hold a conversation with guys as well. You can just walk your dog, and use it as a conversation starter and try to see if you can hold a 5 min convo with a stranger. Outside of that, it could be helpful to find a hobby you enjoy and see if there are any groups in your area that have weekly meetups.
