Hey everyone, I'll try and make this as quick as possible. But I believe back story is necessary

So on Tuesday, it's now Friday, I ran into a girl I went to high school with. I heard awhile back from a buddy that she was kinda seeing this dude, and it didn't really bother me. I had nothing to be bothered about. Anyways, let's call her Emily. I ran into Emily and her friend Sam. We all hung out for a minute and had a smoke and they didn't really pay much attention to me. I was happy seeing two friends. Sam soon headed off to work and Emily and I quickly grabbed a coffee and had a really really great conversation. My buddies soon found me and dragged me away and out of the blue, Emily texted me saying we should get a coffee Friday night. I obviously agreed. I'm thinking of surprising her with dinner, but I'm not sure if this is a date or two friends hanging out because I don't know her relationship status, and I know I'm not friend zoned because I've spoken to her maybe 3 times in the past 2 years. And in Highschool her and I weren't really that close. We saw eachother around and said hi but that was pretty much it. So my question is, any tips on how to decipher if this is a date or not during dinner? I'm going in with the mentality of whatever but I want to be able to know what I'm looking for. She's really one hell of a girl and I could easily see myself with her. Anyways thanks in advance everyone.
