Hey seddit (throwaway for this post),

I'm about to ask to a girl out I recently met but I'm not entirely sure how to go about it.

A bit of back story, I met her at a college friends party and things were going pretty well. Kino, flirting etc and she generally seemed receptive. The thing is, one of her friends got super drunk super quickly and emotional so she ended up suddenly leaving with her friend to look after her. I continued to party and had a laugh, but her sudden leaving meant I didn't get to go in for the kiss / number close. I'm not sure when I'll see her again without initiating so I'm thinking of messaging her on Facebook and asking her out. I don't see many other options. The thing is, I can't decide how to do it.

Do I cut straight to the chase and just say something along the lines I'd love to take you out for sometime next week / immediately suggest a date or do I start speaking to her casually with more of an "it was awesome to meet you" conversation and build it up from there?

I'm generally thinking the former, she generally seemed receptive and interested so I believe there's a good success chance, however, I can't help but feel a little worried about coming across too strong or if she says no or is unsure, making things awkward. On the other hand, I don't want to come across as too passive so I'd rather be more direct and polarizing rather than beating around the bush.
