I know there's a lot of talk on this subreddit about being disinterested in the results of your interactions with people you fancy, and just be happy that you went out of your way to make those connections or interactions to begin with.

I just wanted to tell a quick story about my friend. He's a really smart and interesting guy. A talented coder and musician, with varying interests in video games, film and literature, he can come off as shy around new people.

Recently, after breaking things off with an on again off again needy ex girlfriend, a few of my friends decided to go to a comedy show. Now, before hand, we decided to smoke some weed and we ended up in a Starbucks about a block from the show.

A cute brunette was behind the counter, with a little bit of a rocker chick look to her. Totally his type. He approaches me, after I sat down with my drink and laughed.

"I just told the cashier she was really cute." He told me. Surprised, because that was out of character for him. "Ask her for her number." I replied.

He comes back and tells me she has a boyfriend and shrugs his shoulders. He even said that was so unlike him as we walked to the show.

That was two weeks ago, since, he met and set up dates with a girl he met at school and a girl he met on tinder. It may have been the weed, it may have been his discontent after ending things with the first girl, but there was a change in him. And he's so much happier for doing it.

Surprise yourself.
