A bit of a field report here but not really, more of just an overview of an interaction I had. This happened this morning at a race I was in. Quick info about myself: 16yo, 5'7", 135lbs, white. I saw this girl standing alone at the start line. She was being quiet and listening to music. I was a bit anxious because I honestly couldn't tell what age she was. She could have been 14, or she could have been 24. This is a big problem for me as an underage person. I had been greeting people and wishing then good luck, passing and ignoring her twice. Finally, I went up to her and said "good luck". I guess I scared her because she jumped. She laughed for a second and replied, "Ha, sorry, yeah, you too." Then I gave her a high five and smiled at her as I left. So, the race starts, I ran a pretty good race, not to brag! I hung out at the finish for a while and I saw her with an older man who I figured out was her dad. I smile at her, and she says "hey". From there, the conversation went:

Me: how'd you do? Her: 23:30. How about you? Me: Ah, 19:08. Her and her dad both seemed impressed. Yes, this was awkward with the dad there, but he was nice enough and I was able to keep a happy, laid back vibe. I gave her another high five but held her hand for about two seconds (this is a signature move of mine ;D) The rest of the conversation was mainly with her dad, but I made sure to occasionally glace at her and smile. I wanted to ask her number, but I couldn't because, again, her dad was there. That was that. I might see her again, as she's in track and runs, but that could be awhile. What should I have done in this situation? I didn't want to disrespect (or piss off) her dad, so I didn't make any advances, but I had kept a confident and content attitude the whole time and she seemed to be paying attention to me and was smiling the whole time.
