You just have to realize it all doesn't matter. You talk to her for a bit and ask her out. If she says yeah then cool you have a date. If no, then you keep talking to her as a friend. It literally doesn't matter if she rejects you. In her mind you're just the guy who asked her out. If she denies you then its clear there will be no romance there and then you just go on with you're life. If you want to be friends with her then cool, do that. If you only wanted a romantic encounter then cool, ask her out. If she says no, then just be friendly to her when you encounter her but don't actively try to talk to her.

As far as approaching just go up to her. You're brain will think of something...People don't like to be in awkward constitutions so one of you will engage a conversation. To keep a conversation just ask her questions and bring up new topics when you see fit.

In college too and had a very similar experience. There was a girl in my class (still is) I wanted to ask out.

Of course, I knew I wouldn't ask her out in front of classmates, so I set a goal to just go for it if I saw her outside of class.

I did shortly after and within a split second of seeing her walk by, my brain went "now or never, this is your best chance." I made small talk about class then straight up asked if she'd like to study sometime. Got her number and we hung out at a cafe.

Nothing happened after that, she wasn't interested in going out on a "date" I guess. But damn, knowing I tried felt so good.

Bottom line is, you'll feel so much better knowing you tried rather than knowing you didn't try just to save yourself from minor, temporary embarrassment.

Sure, I see the girl in class, but it's college and there's plenty of other girls who want to meet guys.
