Don't forget that he is in this with you. He likes to hang out with you and at the same time he feels attracted to you(you had sex) but he doesn't know how far you are willing to let him go. He doesn't want to lose what you have now. If he is escalating all that he can and you don't reciprocate he is screwed. You sound certain that he also knows that you are not starting anything serious? Where do you draw this line? Maybe his line is different from yours.

I'd say that you confront him next time you have a feeling that something could happen or when you want something to happen. "Hey Malcolm! Don't you find me attractive? Why aren't you making any effort?". Say whatever you want as long as it's clear that it's aimed for that night and I'm sure here will start all engines. A big indicator that he can't misinterpret. Be open and honest with what you want. This is my answer for this specific case not to all encounters.
