If you know them that's awesome, you're way ahead of the game.

Friend them first on Facebook. If you're worried they won't accept your request, be sure to tweak your page to show you have potentially mutual friends, or give enough information publically to show you're kind of just a normal guy from the area. It will alleviate the potential that she thinks you're a stranger and ignores you.

If you feel just a FB friend request is too risky to do alone, shoot a corresponding message briefly introducing or reminding who you are. You will likely get accepted if your photos are normal and you've done everything I've suggested to this point.

If the request gets ignored, no choice but to move on. Sorry. You can start the process over if you meet them somewhere in person and establish a human connection. But don't take it personal.

If they accept you, just relax for a bit, maybe let her scope you out and like some of each others stuff. But after relaxing a bit you can send a message expressing your interest in the girl, but don't go overboard... just something that piques her curiousity because what you are doing is forming romance online which is a mightily uphill battle. I would highly recommend doing something funny, like making a snapchat video of some sort showcasing your humor and save it, and send it in a facebook message to kind of show you are funny. If you succeed, that's when you can branch over into Snapchat itself and really build good vibes since snapchat is great for showing humor and creativity.

Instagram is virtually worthless because it offers nothing facebook and snapchat do not. Make the connection on facebook first, let things blossom, use snapchat to add to your communication and build rapport by being funny.

Don't be the guy that sends selfies of you in bed. It won't get you far. She likely has 10 other guys doing it and more guys in real life in a better position than you to try and impress her with that. Use snapchat to be funny and show your personality and you can really cut through the passing lane into building a rapport with her.

You gotta be sure to not be pushy in any of it. Just treat it as all one big fun interaction. Any girl likely has 10 guys in her orbit at all times. Be patient but offer her something different. I'd say after maybe you start interacting and you have reason to be impressed by her, express that she impresses you and ask her out.

She needs to know you've seen something in her that is making you ask her out.
