There is a lot of chatter in the Valley about these older VC guys reliving their youth through young founders.

Luke throws parties, and gives rich guys a taste of the "cool" life. Over cocaine and strippers, a whole lot of things sound good.

But trying to make money the social way is not that easy. If the guy is particularly susceptible you personal influence, he'll usually have his team vet whatever deal you propose.

A lot of these guys are players in the business sense. I don't know if you watch Shark Tank, but most of the time, even with a good idea, the investors collude to keep the price down.

There was one where the guy had digital locks that would open with a cellphone. All the sharks were interested, but the inventor had experience and could tell that they were robbing him blind. So he said no. Ended up selling a stake for a billion to Amazon.
