One thing that isn’t often spoken about is how hard it is for men to approach women. It’s actually one of the hardest things we ever have to do and that’s the reason why the vast majority of us only ever do it while drunk and specially defined scenarios like a bar or a club. Well I don’t want to be that way anymore and have decided to get over this fear once and for all so to that end I’ll be approaching 2 women every day for 50 days and writing about what happens. And just so we’re clear; this isn’t about ‘getting laid’; it’s about breaking through my personal limitations and learning to become a much stronger man. When a guy approaches a girl he doesn’t know, every one of his insecurities are shoved right into his face in technicolour HD and it’s in that moment that he really finds out what he’s made of. It’s time to find out what I’m made of. Let’s do this.

Day 15 – woman number 1 – Shaylah

So today I was once again traipsing through the streets and weighed down with heavy goods when I looked behind to see a brunette who was also carrying her own fair share of crap. After a quick double take; I walked up, said hey, and told her I thought she looked amazing to which she replied ‘Oh wow, thanks. That’s so nice of you to say.’ Together we walked and talked while trudging our respective baggage and she told me her name was Shaylah and that she was Canadian. Now I was about to invite Shaylah to Starbucks for a beverage when shocker of horrors, she actually beat me to it. What’s more, when we were inside, she actually offered to pay for my coffee. Result. Anyway; we had a good chat both during and after our coffees and the more I spoke to her, the clearer it became that she was a really genuine person. I could already feel from her vibe that she was an open soul with no bullshit to her but that was definitely highlighted in the course of our conversation. Without knowing me for even 20 minutes she told me some pretty personal things about herself that most would have hidden and I thought it was awesome to meet another human being who was so honest. In any event, she said she’d love to meet for another coffee in future but that she’s currently seeing someone and that said coffee must remain strictly platonic. Fine by me

Woman number 2 – Unknown

Maybe an hour or so after he met Shaylah, yours truly was once again traipsing through the streets when he once again spied a brunette who was speed walking in his direction. Keeping in line with the theme of this challenge, he once again stopped a woman he didn’t know and once again said she looked amazing, to which this lady replied ‘I can’t stop because I’m late for work, but thank you! You’ve really made my day!’ She then carried on about her day with renewed pep in her step.

Now he thought about once again walking alongside and serenading a woman with chatter along her journey to work, but she was marching in the wrong direction and he didn’t want to be late for his meeting with Krid.  But that said; if he’s to be truly honest with himself, there was also a very small part of him that once again feared the rejection and welcomed the excuse not to push himself further. C’est la vie, once again.

Thoughts

It’s not every day you stop a woman in the street and she ends up buying you coffee to say thanks but by jove that’s what happened to me today. If there’s one thing that this challenge is constantly slamming into my head it’s that life can put you into some awesomely unusual situations if you try something new. If you’re reading this and are in any way inspired by my words then I urge you to take action, step outside your comfort zone and see where it takes you. You might feel the urge to place me on a pedestal and make me ‘special’ and while my ego would love that, the truth is that I’m nothing but a flesh, blood and bones homosapien just like you. If I can do something; there’s a damn good chance that you can too if you apply yourself.

Like I said earlier; a few hours ago I had a beverage with Krid, the Thai lady from yesterday. While we were chatting, I had the idea to interview her about how she felt during my initial approach and she had some pretty interesting things to say which you can see in the video.
