So a while back, I approached a girl who appeared to be studying for something. Used a direct opener, got a decent response "I am flattered", exchanged names. However she said she was studying for an exam that was going to start in 1/2 hour, so she was really busy. I asked for her facebook since it wasn't enough time to get a number and build some rapport, which I like to do before asking for # and that's that.

Should I go direct in the 1st message to her? Something like "Hey, it's x, let's do x on x day, you down?"

Or should I go back to callback info, and open with "Hey, it's x, how did your exam go on that day?

I know this post might not be helpful for most, but I'm wondering what the best course of action is for when you get the contact info of a girl without a solid connection?
