I had a sudden surge of creativity at the gym and came up with the following opener that's gotten responses blowing any other "first message" I've tried out of the water:

"You seem like the kind of girl I'd share a glance with on a trip to Paris and find myself thinking about 20 years later at my kids's Bar Mitzvah"

IMO this provides women with:

-Something creative to pique their interest

-An insulation that you're a man of culture, and that you find her somewhat fascinating/exotic

-A challenge, because this isn't necessarily a straightforward compliment

-Involvement in an exciting conspiracy with you
