Well it’s not always as black and white as that. Most sexual encounters happen not because you said “we’re about to have sex right?” Most of the time it’s because of escalation either on the male or female part. There was this girl I literally just met outside of highschool one day. This was the first time I met her and I struck up a conversation with her. Next thing I know she’s walking with me to the barbershop even though that was nowhere near her destination, just making regular conversation until I decide to escalate by grabbing on her ass and kissing her. We did this all the way until I made it to the barbershop and she gave me one last kiss before I left. It seemed like it happens out of nowhere but it just felt right to do in the moment. She was walking all close to me and her brother pointed out to her from across the street making fun of her because he knew she liked me and that’s when things happened.

This girl had never met me before or seen me anywhere before that day. It was just something that happened in the moment and that’s how a lot of these scenarios happen. Of course if a girl says stop, stop but you will never know unless you take the risk. Sexual harassment/rape doesn’t happen unless you hear no but keep going. Otherwise, if she isn’t drunk, high, or disabled in any way, she allowed you to make these moves on her, therefore she consented, as far as the law is concerned.

We as men need to remove the notion from our heads that we have to tell a woman what we are going to do and get confirmation before doing it. If the signs are there and it feels right, just do it and if you get rejected depending on how bad the rejection is apologize and keep it moving. Don’t apologize if she laughs and says I wasn’t ready, say well I hope you are now because I’m coming in for another one but if she is clearly shook, apologize and call it a night. Simple.
